I hope that this may help others who are on older versions who upgrading to PC's running Vista or Wondows 7. I'm looking forward to being able to add landscape design to my house plan (the old 4.0 only supported rectangular lots). I am now assuming that if Home Designer Pro 9 (which is over of my price budget) can open the plans, so can Home Designer Suite. Browse to C:Program Files (x86)3D Home ArchitectPROGRAM3DHOMEV3.exe and double click it. However, all I had to do is open them in 4.0, save them and re-copy to the new PC and they will open now also. Copy missing dlls: (they are in the DirectX folder on the 3D Home Architect Installation CD) copy them to C:WindowsSystem (you may also want to put another copy in System32) 3. You cannot save files in the trial version but if you can read and edit the files, I assume the rest should not be a problem.īTW, I had some old plans from an even earlier version dating back before 1998 that could not be read by release 9. All of these files must be named the same, and at the same location, in order for them to open. Note: These older plans had individual files for each floor or layout page. I downloaded the trial copy of Home Designer Pro 9 and copied over my old plan directory.Īs Elovia warned, I received several warning errors when I tried to open the plans - looking for library objects (doors, appliances, etc.) but I can open and view files. From the menu, select File> Open Plan, n avigate to the file's location on your computer, select it, then click Open. Since the old Broderbund 4.0 plan files were pl1, I decided to give it a try. I noticed in the on-line demo of Home Designer, the "Open" command looked for file extensions.
